There’s More to Pour
A deeper look,
for the curious.
This project was a TON of fun - I'd say some of my favorite logo work I've ever done ended up on the cutting room floor. Though I can't share much of the iteration we did publically, it'd be a thrill to talk through the research, process, & details that led us here.

I'd love to share the details over a glass of rosé - French, of course.

As one of our flagship LaunchPad projects at Mertz Design Studio, I led a team of two young designers through the full brand identity and architecture process.

We grounded the work in cultural research, looking not only at other wine festivals, but also taking inspiration and insights from black- and minority-owned beverage brands of all kinds—House of Brown, Ghia, and Topo Chico being some standouts.

I sketched the initial logo concepts and developed the first brand worlds to show how each logo could come to life through color, merch, signage, and overall vibe. Once our final direction was chosen, I helped our team shape a visual direction that leans into bold color, strong typography, and a sense of rhythm—something that could move seamlessly from digital to environmental, from social to signage.

A Brand Worth Toasting

A Brand Worth Toasting

The Challenge

On November 8th, 2024, tickets for the BLK Wine Fest ‘25 went live. In less than an hour, they were sold out.

Lush Life Brands knew they'd created something incredible, and they shared a vision of what Cincinnati's Black Wine Festival could become: More expansive, more inclusive. An event that could call any city in the nation home.

The challenge: redefine the brand for the festival, but maintain their core vision: Celebrate the culture, craftsmanship, and community of the Black-owned wine industry, and take inspiration from the sophistication and vibrancy of the traditional wine industry, without the pretension, the snobbishness, and the elitism.
